Man stabbed to death

TURA: A 29-year-old man was fatally stabbed at Rajabala market in West Garo Hills on Monday night sparking public anger and demands for arrest of the accused who has since fled. The incident is said to be fall out of personal rivalry.

The victim Abdur Rahim Ali was in the market with another relative when they were attacked by the accused Abu Taher who stabbed both his victims. While Ali died from his wounds his relative Anarul Islam sustained grievous injuries and is currently in a critical state in a hospital in Hatsingimari town.

The accused Abu Taher is currently absconding. Abu Taher was infatuated with the sister of the victim and two years back, when she had rebuked his advances he was alleged to have kidnapped her. Only when a police case was filed did the accused return the girl who has since been married off to another suitor.

The murder prompted traders to down shutters in protest and angry residents demanded the arrest of the accused. A case has been registered and police are on the search for the accused.
