‘Diana must prove she served Congress for 15-years’
SHILLONG: The acting president of South Garo Hills District Congress Committee, Chavan Sangma has condemned the statement of Diana N. Marak who claimed that she served the party for 15 years. In a statement here, Chavan said that Diana joined the party last year during the month of July. “I know she has never voted for Congress in the past. During the last Assembly election, she was the main supporter of Independent candidate Samuel Sangma,” he said. He further added that she should provide evidence that she was in the party for the last 15 years. According to him, the people who resigned from the party hatched a plan to join Congress and resign before polls to bring down the image of the party. Reacting to the statement of Julias Sangma that he resigned from the post after blaming the chief minister for neglecting the district, he said that Samuel M Sangma too was a Parliamentary Secretary in the Congress-led MUA II government and should also be held responsible. While terming them as ‘Aya Ram, Gaya Ram’, he said that they had requested Congress leaders to give ticket to Samuel Sangma, but he was denied one leading to his resignation.
Two Congress workers resign in Dalu
TURA: The Secretary of the Block Congress Committee (BCC) in Dalu has resigned from his post. In his resignation letter to the BCC president and secretary, A G Marak cited health problems as the reason for his resignation. Another Congress worker, Silgra N Marak of Koinadubi village under Barengapara also resigned from the party’s primary membership.
Election committee of UDP formed in Jowai
JOWAI: With an aim to strengthen the United Democratic Party in the Jowai Legislative Assembly Constituency and to gather maximum votes to its candidate, Moonlight Pariat, the party has formed a new Election Committee in a meeting held at Yung Walieh (Dorbar hall) Dulong on Monday. Speakers from different villages under the constituency spoke on behalf of the party and its candidate and also on the importance of the Election Committee in order to strengthen the party. Later, the committee was formed with Lamwan Paswet as the chairman, Chriam Ryngkhlem as the vice-chairman, Arwotki Sumer as the secretary and Trueman Passah as the sssistant secretary with few executive members, unit presidents, secretaries as members of the special committee. The meeting was attended by a large crowd who came from all across the Constituency.
SWKH Cong district president urges members to work hard
Mawkyrwat: Newly elected president of the South West Khasi Hills District Congress Committee (SWKHDCC), Kitborlang Nongrem called upon the Congress workers in Mawkyrwat and Ranikor Constituencies to work hard so that the party can retain both the seats in the upcoming Assembly elections in the State. While speaking at the meeting organised by the Mawkyrwat Block Congress Committee and Ranikor Block Congress Committee at Mawkyrwat on Saturday Nongrem said that they have formed primary units in almost all the villages in both the constituencies, but as a party, they need to work hard so that they can retain both the seats. Nongrem also expressed disappointment at the decision of former DCC President, Mansturdy Nongrem who recently joined the HSPDP and former Congress MLA from Mawkyrwat, Rowell Lyngdoh, who have joined NPP. “Even though we lost two senior leaders, we wish them good in their life, but that does not weaken the party because many people from other parties have joined us,” he said.

Shilong: Lion’s Club international, a premier social service organisation is celebrating it’s centenary this year.
