SHILLONG: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president, Wanshuwa Nongtdu said that the political affairs committee (PAC) of AAP which is authorised to make the poll related decisions, was looking for suitable candidates to put up in the forthcoming Assembly polls in Meghalaya which led to the delay in announcement of third list of candidates.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Nongtdu said, “We want to put up candidates who do not have any corrupt or criminal background. It will take time to announce the third list of candidates.”
He said that the AAP would kick-start its campaign after getting the guidance from the central party leaders in Delhi while the party was currently all geared up for the upcoming elections.
The state unit of AAP had maintained that the party would not contest the elections but a turnaround happened when the party leadership in Delhi decided to contest the state Assembly elections.
“There was a problem in contesting the elections as we received no call from Delhi but everything changed when the central observer from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Rakesh Sinha visited the state,” Nongtdu said.
So far, AAP has announced the names of eight candidates who will contest the forthcoming Assembly election in the state scheduled for February 27.
The party will field Wonder Lapang (Umsning), Peter Dohkrut (Mawlai), Dedrict Binong (Nongpoh), Doross Ramsiej (Mawkyrwat), Shalnangh C. Marak (North Tura), Hadisul Islam (Rajabala), Banrilang Jungai (Jowai constituency) and Denis Tynsiar (Pynursla).
