SHILLONG: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president, Wanshuwa Nongtdu, said the political affairs committee (PAC) of AAP, which makes poll decisions, is looking for suitable candidates to contest the election and this is delaying the announcement of the third list.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Nongtdu said, “We want to put up candidates who do not have any corrupt or criminal background. It will take time to announce the third list of candidates.”
To a query, he said the AAP will kick-start its rally after getting the guidance from the central leadership in Delhi.
The state AAP chief said initially there was no plan to contest the election but later the central leadership decided otherwise.
“There was a problem in contesting the elections as we received no call from Delhi but everything changed when AAP central observer, Rakesh Sinha, visited the state,” Nongtdu said.
So far, AAP has announced the names of eight candidates who will contest the forthcoming Assembly election in the state scheduled for February 27.
The party will field Wonder Lapang (Umsning), Peter Dohkrut (Mawlai), Dedrict Binong (Nongpoh), Doross Ramsiej (Mawkyrwat), Shalnangh C Marak (North Tura), Hadisul Islam (Rajabala), Banrilang Jungai (Jowai constituency) and Denis Tynsiar (Pynursla).
