SHILLONG: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) candidate from Pynthorumkhrah constituency, James Ban Basaiawmoit has urged the state Congress to support him in the upcoming Assembly elections instead of asking him to contest on a Congress ticket.
Admitting that the Congress did approach him with a ticket, James told reporters that the party should instead support him if it does not want the BJP to sweep the elections.
James also thanked the Congress for approaching him. However, he added: “I cannot switch to any other political party as I am committed to the PDF. I requested the Congress leaders to support the PDF and the electorate not to waste their votes,” he said.
He added that his supporters have decided to stick with him in PDF.
Though the BJP has not declared its candidate for the seat, former Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek is a ticket aspirant.
It deserves mention that the Congress is yet to declare candidates in three constituencies – Pynthorumkhrah, South Shillong and Khliehriat.
