Guv asks bureaucrats to focus on villages
NONGSTOIN: Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad called upon the government officers at the grassroots level to dedicate themselves in uplifting villagers along with the state and the nation as a whole during his visit to Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills on Wednesday. He informed the crowd gathered at the circuit house that while he was in Delhi he had met the Minister of Agriculture, Government of India and had discussed about his desire to promote agriculture in the state. He encouraged the use of organic manure and advised farmers to avoid chemical fertilizer which damages the soil and affects production. He concluded by expressing his readiness to address the grievances of the people and the officials of the district. Deputy Commissioner Arunkumar Kembhavi, SP G.D. Kharwanlang, ADCs, EACs along with district heads of offices were also present at the gathering.The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by K.L.Nongbri, ADC. 

Missing girl returns home
SHILLONG: Lenity Laloo, who had earlier filed a complaint regarding her missing daughter Dabukaru D Laloo, informed that her daughter has returned home. It may be mentioned that Lenity lodged a complaint on January 22 stating that her daughter had gone missing after she boarded a vehicle for LGBI airport (Guwahati International Airport). In a statement issued here, she reported to the Lumdiengjri Police Station on the afternoon of January 30 and informed the police that her daughter had returned home.

District Level Media Monitoring Committee Constituted
Shillong: In an effort to ensure free and fair conduct in the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections in East Jaintia Hills, the District Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) has been formed with the District Election Officer serving as Chairman. The members of the Committee include Additional Deputy Commissioners, Extra Assistant Commissioners, representative of the Central Government I & B Ministry Official in the District, Independent Citizen/Journalist as may be recommended by District Election Officer and District Information and Public Relations Officer, Khliehriat as Member Secretary. The term of reference of the Committee is to preview, scrutinize and verify all advertisements by individual contesting candidates or political parties, scan all media for suspected cases of paid news, monitor political advertisements in electronic media, monitor political advertisement in other media in relation to candidates either overt or covert from expenditure monitoring angle, advertisement in print media, checking if the name and address of the publisher and the printer is carried on any election pamphlets, poster, hand bill and other documents as required under Section 127 A of the RPA Act 1951.

Officials seize cell phones from prisoners in Tura
SHILLONG: Tura jail officials recently seized cell phones from two under trial prisoners (UTPs). Pranab Kr. Das, Assistant Jailor, District Jail Tura lodged a complaint that on January 23 during a surprise inspection, authorities seized cell phones from the possession of UTPs William A. Sangma (Surash) and Silchang N. Marak (Matan), which were suspected to have been used for communication in furtherance of anti-social activities from the jail premises.

Girl killed by electrocution
SHILLONG: A man lodged complaint that his daughter Sonita Langkiroi was electrocuted and died on the spot while attempting to rescue a boy while they were playing near the 11 KV Electric DP Post. Sujon Langkiroi lodged the complaint on January 25 around 1.30 pm, and he alleged that the incident occurred due to negligence of the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL).
