SHILLONG: AICC president Rahul Gandhi’s interaction with women leaders here at the St. Edmund’s College on Wednesday took an emotional turn when an elderly woman, Foster Warlarpih, who is suffering from cancer, sought the help of the Congress chief.
The old woman with tears in her eyes sought the help of Rahul saying she was facing a lot of problems.
Rahul responded positively and Laitumkhrah MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh, who was also present on the occasion, explained to Rahul her problems following a steep increase in the prices of generic medicines.
She said at one point that she was somehow managing her chemotherapy; however, all medicines have become expensive and she is finding it tough to get her treatment done.
Later, Ampareen informed that the AICC chief wanted the state leaders to update him on what action has been taken to help the woman and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has been asked to look into the matter.
Earlier while taking questions from the participants, Rahul continued his attack on the BJP government saying that India has always seen a government which respected different cultures and ideas and there was not so much hatred as exists today even when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister. “The Modi government is imposing one idea on the country and they don’t believe in allowing different people to have their own ideas and languages,” he said.
He also alleged that the Central government wants to change India in the mould of the RSS ideology which is dangerous and harmful even as he cautioned that now a more polarised and aggressive BJP will come to the people ahead of the polls in the state.
