TURA: The Working President of the District Mahilla Congress Committee (DMCC) in East Garo Hills has resigned from her post and also from the primary membership of the party over the party’s decision to allocate both tickets for Ampati and Songsak to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.

In her resignation letter to the President of the MPCC, Fardina C Marak informed that she was leaving the party as it had ignored her in the process of  allotment of party ticket. She also informed of her intention to contest as an independent candidate. Fardina, younger cousin of Congress minister and Williamnagar legislator Deborah C Marak, had come second in the 2013 assembly elections from Songsak where she contested as an Independent candidate after the Congress nominated former MLA Tonsing N Marak for the seat. She was defeated by NPP’s Nihim D Shira while the Congress candidate came third.

In North Tura, BCC General Secretary, Rollingstone Ch Momin along with Mahilla Congress Vice President, Merilla N Sangma and other PCC members and party workers also resigned to extend support to Independent candidate, Rupert M Sangma in the elections. The Congress has nominated sitting legislator Noverfield R Marak for the North Tura seat.

Meanwhile in Williamnagar, District BJP President, Jan Arengh  and other party members along with their aspiring candidate, District vice president, district mahilla president, mahilla mandal president, mahilla executive members, mandal secretary and other booth committee and primary members tendered their resignation on personal grounds.
