HSPDP releases poll manifesto

SHILLONG: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) released the party manifesto on Friday which includes eighteen issues forming the election plank of the party. The manifesto highlights economic and social issues and reiterates their demand for separate Khasi-Jaintia state.

Referring to the manifesto, president of the party, Ardent Basaiawmoit told reporters that the party aimed to bring clean governance, to strengthen the state’s exchequer, to promote tourism, to promote markets especially border markets, create employment opportunities, to improve the recruitment procedures in Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC), District Selection Committee (DSC),

 

Further, he said, “The party will look towards development of roads, electricity in rural areas, water supply, Education, to strive towards providing affordable healthcare, safety for women and children, identifying and promoting talents among youth.”

The party also included issues of the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP), reiterated their opposition to mining uranium and railways as far as passenger train is concern, to fight for the inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, application of Article 371 also featured in their manifesto.

 

Again, steps to improve the land transfer Act and look into the aspect of Land Laws, settlement of boundary issues which Basaiawmoit observed is a problem which has been lingering for years.

 

On the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) of the UDP-HSPDP alliance, he said, “We decided to have individual manifestos. However, the CMP will be there for the alliance.”
