NONGPOH/TURA: Election observers, including those of the police, deputed by the Election Commission of India reached Ri Bhoi, West Khasi Hills and the districts in the Garo Hills region on Thursday.
The Ri Bhoi district election officer said general observers for Mawhati, Umsning and Umroi will be available in the new building of Nongpoh Circuit House.
For Nongpoh and Jirang, the observer will be stationed at Circuit House old building.
The expenditure and police observers will also be at the circuit houses.
In Nongstoin, general observer Sanjay Gupta’s hawk eyes will be on parties and candidates.
Election observers also reached Williamnagar and Ampati. The observers will be available at Williamnagar Circuit House for any election related complaints.
In Ampati, the general observer will be available till March 3 while the police observer will be available till February 27.
The police observer for South Garo Hills arrived in Baghmara on Thursday.
Tura meeting
The general observers — Dr (Mrs) Nidhi Pandey, Harjeet Singh and Rubal Prakher Agarwal — and police observer Bhavana Saxena held a meeting with returning officers, assistant returning officers, civil sector officers and police sector officers at Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Tura on Thursday afternoon.
DC Ram Singh and Dadenggre sub-divisional officer S Tembe apprised the observers of the poll preparedness.
