SHILLONG: Former BJP leader and NPP contestant from Nongthymmai constituency Ehkupar Nongrum has said the alliance between the HSPDP and UDP will snap by March 10.
Speaking to the media here on Thursday after scrutiny of nomination papers, Nongrum castigated the UDP-HSPDP alliance saying such alliances surface only during elections and by March 10 the two parties will split while claiming that the NPP will form the next government in the state.
Stating that the UDP’s Jemino Mawthoh and Congress’s Charles Pyngrope are no longer giants in their constituency, Nongrum said he didn’t feel threatened by his rivals.
“I am getting positive vibes while touring my constituency,” he said, adding that despite being located in Shillong city, Nongthymmai still suffers from abject poverty and poor roads and power supply add to the woes of residents.
Nongrum also lambasted the BJP saying the party in Meghalaya is controlled by one businessman even as he added that the saffron party has no future in the state.
According to the NPP candidate, although the BJP has great leaders of the likes of Narendra Modi and Amit
Shah at the national level, there is acute infighting in the state party. It was wholly due to rampant factionalism that the party’s state president Shibun Lyngdoh failed to secure a ticket for his sister for the upcoming polls, he added.
Nongthymmai is headed for a multi-corner contest with as many as six candidates in the fray.
