SHILLONG: BJP leader and Lok Sabha MP representing Saran constituency of Bihar, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, argued that Meghalaya had nothing to be proud of except the roads that are given by the Center.
He was addressing a gathering of ‘kariyakartas’ (BJP members) of North Shillong at Hotel Grace on Sunday which was attended by several supporters of BJP candidate from the constituency, JA Lyngdoh.
Later, speaking to reporters after the meeting, he said that the state governments that worked tandem with the central government were progressing.
He asserted that it was disheartening when the UPA government was in power, development was almost negligible.
Stating that there is potential development in the state, he said, “Meghalaya is getting an opportunity to work together with Delhi.”
Earlier, during the meeting, Rudy called BJP national president, Amit Shah as a man with magic as he observed that BJP government was formed in those states where Shah set his foot.
In this connection, he called upon the Kariyakartas to convince people to vote for the party to ensure electoral success for Lyngdoh in the race to the Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly).
Exuding confidence about the party’s performance in the state, he said that the state of Meghalaya would get a BJP chief minister for the first time.
He said, “People are looking for change which has motivated the BJP karyakartas from making it (formation of BJP government) successful.”
Speaking about the Congress party, Rudy contended that Congress charged BJP with communal politics as it was unable to talk about issues on development.
He added that people of the state would give a befitting reply to the discussions raised by Congress even as he maintained that the BJP threw more weight on development.
“From the voices of the people here in the state, it seemed that there was a BJP wave,” he said, adding that people in the state extended their support to BJP as they wanted change.
Rudy further said that the party would fight the Meghalaya Assembly polls alone and hoped to form the government on its own.
Asked about its pre and post poll alliance, he quickly said, “There is no alliance of BJP which is going on its own and will form a government on our own strength.”
The BJP has fielded candidates in 47 constituencies for the Assembly polls scheduled for February 27.
