SHILLONG: The headman of Mawmuthoh village, under Raid Nongkrem Hima Khyrim, along with members of the village executive committee on Saturday condemned HSPDP leader Ardent Basaiawmoit for calling him a “street boy”.
Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, the village headman Ribor Kharumnuid asserted that the MLA’s uncivil statement has put a lot of stress on his family members, especially his mother which might even affect her health.
Kharumnuid said the HSPDP leader had send a letter to him seeking permission to organise a meeting at the local dorbar hall of the village. However, the village executive committee later received information from the sector officers that the party has not furnished an application to the DC office seeking permission to hold the meeting.
“Initially we granted permission but when we found that the party had not sought permission from the DC the matter was taken to the village EC for discussion and later permission was denied,” he clarified.
Kharumnuid said the village should organise a collective dorbar (dorbar pyllun) in which the HSPDP chief along with the concerned election officials should clarify on his statement so that the people come to know the truth and his family members regain their peace of mind.
“We have nothing against Basaiawmoit or his party. However, as prior permission from the DC was not taken we could not permit the meeting to be held at the community hall. We had even asked the HSPDP to postpone the meeting so that prior permission could be secured,” he added.
