TURA: The BJP has postponed it’s musical festival at Tura scheduled for Wednesday evening featuring legendary musician Lou Majaw in view of the holy event of Ash Wednesday which marks the onset of the Lent season in the Christian calendar and also for the funeral of Salesian priest Fr. Anthony Abong Marak who passed away in a Guwahati hospital on Monday night.
Observance of Ash Wednesday is the start of the month long Lent Season of abstinence which is one of the most important events in the Christian calendar before Easter Sunday which celebrates the resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ.
“The BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh, campaign committee chief A L Hek and myself in a meeting decided to postpone the musical festival in view of the observance of Ash Wednesday which is a very significant event in the Christian calendar. Moreover, we would also like to show our solidarity with the family and Salesians of Don Bosco who have lost a wonderful priest in Rev. Fr. Anthony Abong B Marak,” informed BJP national Spokesperson Nalin Kohli to The Shillong Times on Tuesday.
Father Abong is being laid to rest at the Salesians cemetery in Bosco Mount, Rongkhon Tura, on Wednesday evening.
