Inspection of expenditure registers
TURA/MAKYRWAT: The District Election Officer, West Garo Hills has informed that there will be an inspection of Expenditure Registers of all the contesting candidates by the Expenditure Observer and concerned officers at DRDA Hall in Tura on February 16, 20 and 24 from 10 am to 5 pm. Meanwhile, the Returning Officer of Ranikor and Mawkyrwat constituencies has set February 15, 19 and 23 as the date for inspection of accounts of the candidates for Mawkyrwat Constituency. The inspection will be held in the office of the Treasury Officer, Mawkyrwat from 10 pm to 5pm. In this regard, all contesting candidates or their agents are requested to be present during the inspection along with their registers and other related documents for maintenance of day-to-day accounts.
Hippocratic to be screened
SHILLONG: Palliative Care unit of North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) informed that the movie, Hippocratic will be screened on February 15. Prithwis Bhattarcharyya, head of Anesthesiology and i/c of Palliative Care told reporters on Tuesday that the 90 minute bio-pic showed the story of “Father of palliative care in India”, Dr. MR Rajagopal to address ethical medicine, global access to pain relief etc.Bhattarcharyya said that the palliative care unit of the hospital has been set up 5 and half years ago. There are more than 500 active patients under it. He added that under palliative care, pain and other symptoms are actively treated and at the same time, emotional, social and spiritual problems are attended to.
Meeting with candidates held
JOWAI: The Jaintia Journalist’s Association (JJA) organised a joint meeting with candidates from all seven constituencies of Jaintia Hills for sharing their main election agendas and to face critical and constructive questions from intellectuals and prominent residents of the respective constituencies besides journalists on Tuesday. The association invited candidates from Nartiang, Jowai and also from Raliang constituencie but all failed to turn out due to their busy schedules. However, candidates from Jowai including Wailadmiki Shylla (NPP), Marki Mulieh (BJP), Moonlight Pariat of UDP and Banrilang Jungai of AAP came to share their agendas. Congress candidate, Awhoi Andrew Shullai was not present in the programme. All candidates have similar issues i.e to work for proper development of the constituency be it in term of health issues, pending projects such as Umngot Water Supply Scheme and completion of the Iawmusiang Market project which has been pending for more than a decade. Pariat added a unique agenda for the unemployed youth that is for setting up skill development institute to train the youths and help them get financial assistance to start up their own jobs as government jobs are very difficult besides making Jowai town a smart town in the state.The program was chaired by HH Mohrmen- a well known columnist and was also attended by prominent residents of the constituency.
