SHILLONG: The UDP’s Shillong city unit has decided to lodge a complaint with the Election Commission against the Congress for provocation and intimidation and creating an atmosphere of fear psychosis among the electorate of West Shillong.
UDP leader AF Dkhar said on Tuesday that over the years, the constituency has witnessed elections fought fiercely based on issues with no reports of violence, threats or intimidation.
“However, recently the party by virtue of being in power has flexed its muscle both physically and financially and often misuses the government machinery to further its cause,” he added.
He was referring to Monday’s incident where a grenade was found in the vehicle of a Congress frontline member. Dkhar said it exposed the Congress’s attempts to grab power at any cost and “it is a parody of its recently organised Concert of Peace attended by none other than its national president Rahul Gandhi”.
“The meeting highly condemns the action of the party to gain publicity through ways and means which are against the very ethos of a democracy,” he said.
