SHILLONG: Former Chief Minister of Assam and Congress leader, Tarun Gogoi today said that the   forthcoming Assembly polls in Meghalaya was not a battle between political parties but a battle of ideologies.  Gogoi who was in Shillong for campaigning on Saturday lamented that the prices of essential commodities skyrocketed throughout the country.

Taking a dig at the BJP, he said that BJP in a beautiful garden like India wanted only lotus to bloom. He also alleged that the BJP had promised of making Meghalaya a model state but they even could not make Gujarat a model state.

According to Gogoi, the concept of “Achche din” is meaningful only for BJP leaders and Ministers and not for common man.

Expressing confidence that Congress will emerge victorious in Meghalaya polls, he said that it was the Congress party which introduced Sixth Schedule in North Eastern states. He also said that   it was the Congress Government   which gave several institutions in Meghalaya for tribes to grow according to their own genius

Meanwhile, Gogoi   also made a clarion call of resolving the long pending Assam- Meghalaya boundary dispute amicably.

Gogoi said that the dispute should be resolved   as per the boundaries defined between two states on the date of creation of the states.

He added that   some adjustments can be made here and there with the help of Survey of India to resolve the dispute. He also expressed happiness that the two states of Assam and Meghalaya have not gone to the court to resolve the matter.
