PDF slams MLA over broken water pipes
SHILLONG: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has attacked the Mawryngkneng MLA, David Nongrum, over the dilapidated condition of water pipes at Umpling. The PDF leaders circulated videos and photos saying that water pipes in the area have not been repaired. These pipes, which provide drinking water to the residents, pass through rivers where waste disposal flows, causing danger to the locals.
Meghalaya BSF gets new Inspector General
SHILLONG: Lalatendu Mohanti, IPS has taken over the charge as Inspector General Meghalaya Frontier, Shillong on Wednesday. After the posting of P K Dubey, IG to BSF Academy Tekanpur, the new IG has joined. Mohanti has come on his permanent posting from Subsidiary Training Centre, Churachandpur (Manipur). An IPS Officer of 1989 batch from J & K Cadre who has been conferred upon President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PPM) and Indian Police Medal (IPM). The officer also has served in the Valley (Jammu & Kashmir) during the recent ongoing militancy. It may be mentioned that Meghalaya Frontier is one of the most challenging Frontier of the BSF in view of recent ongoing turmoil.
IAS officers condemn attack on Delhi chief secy
SHILLONG: The IAS Officers’ Association, Meghalaya has condemned the physical assault on the Chief Secretary of Delhi. “It is an uncivilized and reprehensible act. Any assault on the Chief Secretary is an assault on the bureaucracy itself,” the Association said in a statement on Wednesday. The statement further stated that the bureaucracy’s performance is critical for rendering satisfactory public service and an assault like this will adversely affect the morale and enthusiasm of all Government servants. “The Association stands with Anshu Prakash, IAS in this time of stress and all our colleagues in Delhi. Further, the Association demands that appropriate action against the accused be taken immediately,” it said.
Commissioning of EVMs, mock drill conclude
AMPATI: The commissioning of electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the general elections to the three Assembly constituencies in South West Garo Hills was carried out in the newly constructed Strong Room building premises at Ampati in the past two days. Altogether 179 controlling units (CUs), 180 balloting units (Bus) and 172 VVPATs were commissioned by Sector Officers for use during the polls on February 27next, in the presence of District Election Officer, C.V.D. Diengdoh, Returning Officers H.D.B. Sangma and D.D. Shira, other district election officials and representatives of recognized political parties, candidates and their agents. During the two day commissioning of EVMs, mock poll was carried out on nine out of the total number of EVMs.
EC issues order to deposit legal arms
SHILLONG: The Superintendent of Police, Jowai, West Jaintia Hills, has directed all license holders of arms both small and big, of the district to surrender their weapons at the closest Police Station or Out Post before Thursday, in view of the Legislative Assembly Election and also in conformity with the directions of the Election commission of India. The arms will be returned to their respective owners immediately after the Election process. If anyone fails to deposit their License Arms, legal proceedings will be drawn for cancellation of their arms.
Observer review meet for 3 GH constituencies
SHILLONG: The general observer of Rongara Siju, Chokpot and Baghmara constituencies convened a joint meeting with the zonal and sector officers of both civil and police officers at DRDA Hall in Baghmara on Wednesday. Observer Rupesh Kumar reviewed poll preparedness in the constituencies. He asked the poll officials to pay special attention to the hourly report system and also to check the voting compartment to ensure the secrecy of voters.
The superintendent of police in South Garo Hills, AT Sangma, said they are doing their best to ensure proper law and order situation in the district.
