SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union, through its Education Cell and the Bangalore unit, has expressed disappointment over the decision of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) to scrap post-matric scholarships to students under the categories of Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Scheduled Castes (SC).
In a statement released on Sunday, the union said the management of TISS as well as the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Ministry of Minority Affairs and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment should give priority to this issue and resolve the impending problems faced by ST and SC students.
The KSU urged TISS to revoke the decision and restore the waiver privilege for hostel and mess fees for ST and SC students.
