TURA: In response to the FIR filed by independent candidate in just concluded Meghalaya Assembly polls from South Tura, Anamika J G Momin after several occupants of her Scorpio vehicle sustained injuries when a local wooden bridge collapsed at A’konggre locality, the Office of the Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), Tura North Division has issued a clarification on the matter.

Earlier in the FIR, Momin while alleging that the mishap occurred due to the negligence of the department had also sought action against officials. Momin had also claimed that there were no signboards to indicate that the bridge was unsafe for crossing.

However, in a fresh clarification issued here the department has refuted the claims made by Momin.

“Cautionary signboards were in place at both ends of the bridge as well as at the start and end of the road clearly stating that the road is closed for vehicular traffic due to reconstruction of RCC bridge. There were also signboards indicating that the bridge is meant for pedestrian movement only,” the clarification said.

Along with the clarification, photos of the signboards as well as copies of notices cautioning commuters on safety risk were also produced by the department which is available with this office.
