WKH headman objects to burying woman’s body

SHILLONG: The relatives of a woman, who passed away in a remote village in West Khasi Hills, were allegedly not allowed to bury the body by the headman and others.
A woman identified as Frevilla J Sangma of Sildubi village lodged a complaint that headman Pomindro Sangma, Hallowash G Sangma, Porjish N Sangma and Darmish M Sangma of the same village did not allow her and her family members to bury the body of her mother Mokilla J Sangma in the village graveyard.
The deceased died on January 31 and was buried in the complainant’s compound on February 1.
As per the police complaint, the group of people also threatened the complainant and her family with dire consequences.
