SHILLONG: The women commandos under Special Force (SF-10) have proved their worth together with their male counterparts in maintaining law and order.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day on Thursday, speaking to The Shillong Times, the Inspector General of Police in-charge Training and Armed Police, H Nongpluh, said trained police women under SF-10 are deployed in difficult areas, including Garo Hills, and their performance was praiseworthy. There were 33 women police personnel trained under SF-10 and out of this, 10 are commandos.
Some of them are also deployed for Assembly duty. “The female commandos are of great help and they are equally good in combat and other law and order duties like their male counterparts,” Nongpluh said. Though they sometimes work in difficult terrains, there were no complaints, he added. The police official did not want to reveal the nature of duty of the SF-10 commandos due to the sensitive nature of work. However, the official said whenever any raid is carried out, the female commandos handle the situation diligently. The first batch of police personnel under SF-10, including men and women, completed their training in 2016 and the second batch in 2017.
