SHILLONG: Jailed chairman of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) Champion Sangma, who is set to walk free, has asked all the remaining cadres to surrender.
Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Thursday after being produced in the court for the Pynursla case, the GNLA chairman said he wanted all the GNLA militants to come over ground and work for the betterment of society.
Denying the allegations that he floated GNLA, Sangma said he now “wants to work for the betterment of his community”.
According to Sangma, the first thing he would do now is get proper treatment as he was assaulted by under-trial prisoners in the jail.
“I feel there was a conspiracy to eliminate me,” he said.
Thanking his lawyer Sujit Dey and his team, Sangma said he now wants to spend time with his family.
To a query, Sangma said he has no plan to join politics now.
The GNLA leader, who is a former police officer, was arrested from an area near Indo-Bangladesh border on July 30, 2012. He has been in prison for over five years till the Supreme Court recently ordered for his immediate release. He was dismissed from police services after he allegedly floated the outfit, which was outlawed in 2012.
