GUWAHATI:  Irate villagers on Saturday attacked the residence of one Zakir Hussain, prime accused in rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl at Lalung Village at Batadrawa in Nagaon district of Assam even as protests were rife throughout the state over the incident demanding exemplary punishment to the culprits.

The minor girl was gang raped and  set on fire by a the group of her tormentors led by Zakir Hussain on Friday while she was alone at home after coming back from school. The girl later died of severe burn injuries in Guwahati Medical College Hospital here, police said.

Situation has turned tense in the area as the police who have already arrested two accused, have failed to nab the prime accused Zakir Hussain.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Khumtai constituency of Assam, Mrinal Kumar Saikia while denouncing the ghastly incident of gang rape and murder of the minor girl, alleged before the media that, “It was one of the planned crime executed by Bangladeshi immigrant Muslims in the state who have become a major threat to the society here. Such Talibani acts must be reciprocated same way.”

Another BJP MLA representing Hojai constituency, Siladitya Deb said, “These criminals among Bangladesh Muslim speak Assamese language, wear Assamese Gamocha around their neck but leave no opportunity to torment local people through such heinous crimes.  Time has come for the people of the state to come out en masse against the designs of Bangladeshi immigrant Muslims.”

It may be mentioned that the BJP MLA from Batadrawa constituency, Angoorlata Deka recently demanded in the floor of Assam Assembly that security measures in her constituency must be augment immediately as tension was running high in the communally sensitive area.

The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) Assam state unit while condemning the heinous incident demands immediate arrest and punishment to the culprits. The students organisation called upon the BJP government to do more to protect the women and girls than just shouting the slogan “beti bachao, beti padao”.
