NONGPOH: The District Child Protection Officer, Ri Bhoi District, has informed that Rubul Ali (14) was found by the Pillingkata Police Outpost and he is currently under the care and protection of the Child Welfare Committee at Nongpoh. Decomposed body of man found
NONGPOH: The decomposed body of a man was recovered in Ri Bhoi District. The body was found floating on Umpli River in Pahamsohbar village, on Friday, police said. The deceased was later identified as Selestine Bey (36) of Kuswai village, who had been missing since March 17, and a missing report was also filed by the family on Thursday, at Nongpoh Police Station. Police said that on retrieving the body, it was found that there was ligature mark on the neck, and injuries on the head, leading to suspicions of having murdered and thrown into the water. The body was handed over to the family after the post mortem, and the investigation is on.
UDP meet at Donkupar’s house
SHILLONG: The Central Executive Committee of the United Democratic Party (UDP) will meet at Donkupar Roy’s residence at 11 am on Saturday to discuss party’s debacle in the recently Assembly polls. The meeting will review party’s performance in the just concluded polls. In addition, the party would also discuss about the upcoming MDC and MP elections.
BSF seizes cattle
SHILLONG: The BSF seized a huge number of cattle at Umsiyam, Muktapur, Lynghat and Nayabazar, East Khasi Hills District on Thursday. A total of 54 numbers of cattle was seized from the bordering areas. The BSF troops seized 208 numbers of cattle, and other contraband items worth more than Rs.51.7 lakh from the International Border last week. All the seized items were handed over to concerned departments for further legal action.
State poets felicitated in B’desh
SHILLONG: Two poets from Meghalaya, Streamlet Dkhar and Falguni Chakraborti were felicitated in Bangladesh. The two represented at the Poet’s meet South Asian Literature and Culture Summit-2018 which was held for three days from March 13 to 15 at Pirganj, Rongpur, Bangladesh. Dkhar before residing her poetry spoke a few lines on the origin of Khasi language.
Nominations open for social work award
NONGPOH: The Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner has invited nominations from any individual / institution in the district for their contribution towards social, economic and political transformation through non violence and other Gandhian methods, for amelioration of human sufferings, particularly of less privileged section of the society, contributing towards social justice and harmony. The award is open to all persons regardless of nationality, race, creed or sex. Anyone desirous for the award should submit their nomination pro-forma filled up to the office of the DC on or before April 5, during office hour.
Meeting for development of backward areas held in Ri Bhoi
NONGPOH: A meeting on convergence, integration and focused attention to backward district was held in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District on Friday, which was attended by the district heads of different departments. Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Dilip Kumar informed that it is the initiative of the Government of India to transform the 115 backward districts in the country including Ri Bhoi district as indentified by NITI AAyog, for coverage under ‘Convergence, integration and focused attention to backward districts’. “There is an urgent need to raise the level of social-economic development of these backward areas to bring about balance and inclusive growth through the sincere efforts of each line department,” Kumar said adding that the main targets are nutrition and health care, education, transport and others. He also shed light upon the preparation of the district action plan by each department and to set a target to be achieved year. Other present on the occasion were, D.P. Kharsati, ADC and Project Director, DRDA, BDOs and the meeting was presided over by C.P. Gotmare, DC.
Secondary level school inaugurated
NONGPOH: With an aims at promoting children and uplifting the education sector at Mawrong area in Ri Bhoi District, the District School Education Officer, V.S Nongbet on Friday inaugurated the Mawrong RMSA Secondary School, in the presence of Carolyne Sunn, the headmistress, Mawrong Rangbah Shnong BB Makdoh along with other Mawrong village representatives. The lone Secondary is sponsored by the Central Scheme under RMSA under the sanctioned amount of Rs. 90 lakh. Addressing the gathering, V.S Nongbet lauded the effort of the school management and the Dorbar Shnong for taking up necessary step in setting up with the school. He also said that most of the students residing in rural areas could not complete their higher studies after the primary level resulting in drop-outs. He also urged, the students to work hard and also utilise their talents so that they can achieve success in their life. The inaugural function was also enthralled with the songs and dance performed by the students and later ended with the Ri Bhoi Anthem.
Training programme for women
SHILLONG: The Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Nongstoin in collaboration with Synjuk Seng Samla Shnong Pyndengumiong organised a Skill Upgradation Training Programme (SUTP) on embroidery for the women belonging under Mairang C&RD Block at Tirot Sing Memorial Hall, Pyndengumiong on Novemebr 6 concluded on Thursday. The programme, which was scheduled to be concluded on Frebruary 6, however due to election code of conduct it was kept on hold. The programme was inaugurated by Alex Warjri, Secretary, Pyndengumiong Lummaralong in the presence of representatives of Seng Kynthei Pyndengumiong along with all the members of the Synjuk and Dorbar Shnong. 26 women participated in the training programme.
