Lafarge gets award for safe mining

SHILLONG: Lafarge Umiam Mining Pvt. Ltd., the company which is involved in mining of limestone at Nongtrai has been awarded the Guru Dronacharya award on March 24 during the 15th North East Metalliferous Mines Safety Week final day function held under the aegis of Directorate General of Mines Safety, Guwahati Region, Government of India in recognition of the consistent outstanding achievements of the mines in the field of health and safety.
Lafarge Umiam Mining Pvt. Ltd has retained the prestigious award for three consecutive years.
The award is being given to the mines for winning overall first prize in three consecutive years and for outstanding achievement in the health and safety in mines.
Utpal Saha, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety (Eastern Zone), who was the chief guest, handed over the award to Nongtrai Limestone Mines, LUMPL . Deputy Director Ajit Kumar and K. Madhav Rao were also present in the NEMM Safety Week final day event. The chief guest appreciated Lafarge mines for winning the prestigious award for three consecutive years and becoming the ‘Guru’ for all north-eastern mines, setting role model among all mines of the North-eastern region.
Leading companies in the region like Star Cement, Dalmia Cement, Topcem Cement, Green Valley cement, Hill Cement, Best Cement, MCCL, KLMC, NECM and others also participated in the event.
