Lady Keane College to celebrate womanhood

SHILLONG: Lady Keane College will hold a “Festival of Womanhood” on Thursday at the Sports Complex, Lady Keane College from 12 noon to 3 pm.
The celebration is on the occasion of International Women’s Day and is on the theme ‘The Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives’.
A statement in this regard said that the Women Cell of Lady Keane College honours women hawkers and vendors, the real grassroots entrepreneurs who work under difficult conditions to support their families. According to a statement issued by the college, this initiative aims to provide a platform for these courageous women and celebrate their achievements and acts of courage with the festival.
The festival will also have several stalls to promote the hawkers and vendors, a self-defence skill demonstration and a musical treat by an all- female band, Haystack Ladies.
Alongside, there will be a photography exhibition of women hawkers and vendors of Shillong.
The initiative is also to support women’s empowerment.
