Sonowal directs swift filing of charge-sheet in crimes against women and children

GUWAHATI:  Even as the opposition political parties spitting fire over last Thursday’s incident of rape and murder of a minor girl at Batadrawa in Ngaon district, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday directed all the Superintendents of Police of districts to facilitate swift and correct filing of charge-sheet in all crimes against women and children so that justice can be given to the victims at the earliest.

Sonowal chaired a law and order meeting with Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all districts through video conferencing at his conference hall at Janata Bhawan here.  While directive the SPs to fast-track the filing of correct charge-sheets in all cases crimes against women and children, Sonowal said criminal should not be able to get away taking advantage of the loopholes in law and that must be ensured by filing an accurate charge-sheet, he said.

He also directed the DCs and SPs to conduct intensive awareness campaigns with active participation of students, teachers, NGOs, village heads (gaon burhas), village defence forces, panchayat members, ASHA workers, anganwadi workers etc., so that people are made aware to prevent heinous crimes taking place against children and women in all corners of the state.  The chief minister also directed the SPs of all districts to personally monitor all such cases.

Meanwhile, policed have arrested the prime accused, Zakir Hussain, in the case of rape and murder of the minor girl at Batadrawa besides two other accused. Police also have arrested one Muklesh Hussain, elder brother of Zakir Hussain as he had helped Zakir to flee.
