SHILLONG: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), which could secure only two seats in the last Assembly elections, has started preparing for the upcoming district council elections.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Sunday, HSPDP leader KP Pangiang said the party is progressing as far as its vote share is concerned though its performance was not up to the mark in the recently concluded Assembly polls.
“We are now working hard for the MDC elections and hope to secure more seats,” Pangiang said even as he added that the failure in the Assembly polls is a good lesson to reorganise and strengthen the party ahead of the council polls.
He informed that the party would soon have a meeting to discuss on various issues, including the upcoming MDC polls. Maintaining that the party will not take hasty decision on any matter, he said, “The matter pertaining to the two of its MLAs, Samlin Malngiang and Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, who went against the party’s directive and supported the MDA government, is likely to be discussed in the meeting.”
