Guwahati Police arrest two for looting Israeli tourist

GUWAHATI:   A driver of a city passenger transport vehicle and the handyman  have been arrested by the city  for mugging a 27-year-old Israeli tourist at Khanapara in the city on Saturday night on the basis of an FIR filed by the victim.

The Israeli tourist, Kohen Neer, was accosted and looted at Khanapara area in the city when the tourist was to board a bus to travel to Majuli River island in eastern Assam on Saturday night.

Police said the accused Buman Saikia and Dipankar Saloi snatched a bag from the tourist at Khanapara area at around 9 P.M.

On the basis of a police complaint lodged by the tourist, a case (No 1154/184) was registered under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Dispur Police Station in the city.

Police recovered three ATM cards, an amount of Rs 14000 in cash, 200 Euro and 200 Dollars were recovered from the possession of the arrested duo Buman Saikia and Dipankar Saloi.

The tourist from Israel came to Guwahati on April 26 and spent a night in one of his friends’ house near the IOCL refinery at Noonmati in the city.
