SHILLONG: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) on Thursday informed that it has suspended two of its party MDCs – James Sylliang and Grace Mary Kharpuri – for one year on charges of anti-party activities.
Sylliang is a KHADC MDC from Mawhati constituency in Ri-Bhoi District while Kharpuri represents Nongshken constituency in East Khasi Hills.
Trouble started brewing in the one-year-old party after the two MDCs alleged misappropriation of Rs 28 crore by the KHADC CEM and party chairman PN Syiem.
Speaking to reporters, PDF president Ivanlumlang Marbaniang said that the party’s Central Executive Committee will meet shortly to discuss the stand of the rebel MDCs.
Marbaniang said the Parliamentary Party leader in the KHADC is appointed by the party, and admitted that the open rebellion by the two MDCs has affected the party.
He was of the opinion that misunderstandings, if any, can be sorted out within the confines of the party.
