SHILLONG: The state government has convened a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the Village Administration Bill (VAB) and the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) building bylaws to find a long-term solution to the contentious issues. “We will have a meeting with the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep and Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council,” Urban Affairs Minister Hamlet Dohling said. The KHADC had recently decided to constitute a committee on VAB. The committee is being chaired by MDC Teilinia Thangkhiew with HS Shylla, Manstudy Nongrem, Rona Khymdeit and Lamphrang Blah as members and Erwin Sutnga as legal advisor. The KHADC has opposed the extension of the MUDA building bylaws on the ground that people face harassment while applying for permission from MUDA. Earlier, Congress legislator PT Sawkmie also wanted the government to denotify the census towns, including his constituency Mawlai, from the purview of the MUDA bylaws.
