Ban on use of plastic bags in Haflong hill town

GUWAHATI:  The Chairman of Haflong town committee in Dima Hasao has issued an order imposing ban on sale and use of polythene bags, plastic water bottles or tea glasses, thermocol etc.

All the businessmen, shopkeepers including vegetable vendors are prohibited to sale and use of these items as these cause pollution, drain blockade, health hazard.

The order further states that penalty of non-compliance will amount to Rs. 5000 (Rupees Five thousand).

The Haflong Town committee has also requested the public in general to cooperate with them to make Haflong polythene free town and as this is for larger interest of the public.
