SHILLONG: In order to create a platform for the students to showcase their talents in various field of education, combination sports, social and cultural club, the Combination Sports, Social and Cultural club, Jhalupara on Sunday organised an award ceremony as part of their winter camp competition which was organised on January. Local MLA Sanbor Shullai presented the award to students who excelled in various events like spelling bee, quiz, extempore speech and others.
Mother’s Day celebrated
SHILLONG: Mother’s Day was celebrated in Hill View Secondary School on May 14 to honour all mothers and express gratitude for their efforts. The principal, Arpita Majumdar addressed the parents on “Good parenting skills.” The teachers performed a cultural extravaganza including songs, dance, poem etc. Various competitions were conducted like “healthy tiffin competition” to educate the mothers to give nutritional food to their kids.
Padma Awards nominations
Shillong: The highest civilian awards of the country, Padma Awards, which includes Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri will be announced on Republic Day, 2019. The award seek to recognize ‘work of distinction’ and is given to distinguished and exceptional achievements/services in all fields of disciplines such as Art, Literature and Education, Sports, Medicines, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade and Industry etc. Interested individuals from East Khasi Hills District are requested to send their nominations to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, EKH on or before the May 19. Sumo association appeals to govt
SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Tata Sumo Tourist taxi Drivers Association appealed to the government to look into their plight as they asserted that the cost of petrol, diesel, car spare parts, insurance and toll gates is increasing day by day. In a statement issued here, the association said the Tata Sumo fare from Shillong to Guwahati (101 kms) should be Rs 164 and the fares of tourist fare is Rs 391 (4+1) which is as per the government notification of July 25, 2011. However, the association maintained that it is charging Rs 350 instead of the Rs 391. The association also said it has appealed to the Transport department on May 10 to revise the fare rates of Tata Sumo and Tourist taxi.
General observer interacts with candidates, agents
Ampati: A meeting of the General Observer Hans Raj Chauhan and Expenditure Observer Sanket Deshmukh with the candidates and party representatives in the presence of District Election Observer, H.D.B. Sangma and Returning Officer of Ampati constituency D.D. Shira took place after the allocation of symbol to the Independent candidate on Monday afternoon. Earlier, the Returning Officer D.D. Shira allotted “Batsman” symbol to the Independent candidate Subhankar Koch.
Governor visits Mawkyrwat
Mawkyrwat: The Governor of Meghalaya, Ganga Prasad visited Mawkyrwat on Monday and held a review meeting with all the Heads of South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat at the Multi Purpose Hall, office of the DC, Mawkyrwat with regards to the implementation of schemes and projects in the district. He assured that he has taken note of the importance and needs of the district. Prasad asked locals to take up mushroom and tomato cultivation.
