MeECL workers protest over pending demands

 TURA: Muster roll workers of the MeECL under the banner of the MeECL Progressive Workers’ Union (MPWU) on Wednesday, held a sit-in demonstration at the MePDCL Office in Tura in protest against the non-fulfillment of their many long pending demands.

The workers while displaying placards and posters with slogans- ‘Regularization is our main demand’, ‘We will fight till the end’, ‘No turning back’ etc sat outside the office in an effort to pressure the authorities to look into their demands.

Some of the demands of the union include immediate implementation of equal pay for equal work, the release of new rate of wages and arrears for man days and work charge, up-gradation of man days into casual employee and equal number of days for maternity leave as regular employees, besides others.

It may be mentioned that many of the workers have been with the corporation since the last many decades without any kind of enhancement being provided. Although, repeated agitations were held and memorandums submitted in the past, the authorities have turned a deaf ear to their pleas forcing them to depend on mere wages.
