TURA: Several shops at Chandmari tri-junction of Tura town sustained major damages in a fire which broke out at 10:30 pm on Wednesday.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh said that a short circuit in one of the shops caused the fire which then spread to other nearby shops.
“A total of four shops mostly selling groceries were damaged and suffered losses however, several shops including a tea stall, located on the opposite side from where the fire broke out were spared by the fire,” the DC said.
Although the incident took place at night, fire trucks were quick to respond and were soon able to put out the fire. However, shop items and goods could not be saved and affected owners suffered heavy losses.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh informed that he was yet to get the report of the assessment but would soon have it.
