SHILLONG: The principal of St George School in Nongmynsong was arrested on Tuesday after fresh FIRs were filed by the Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO).
CSWO filed two FIRs on Tuesday after a group of hostellers told activist Agnes Kharshiing on Tuesday about physical assault in school.
The students in the petition said they were harshly beaten in the school over petty issues like a spelling error on black board, for being late in the assembly by 2-3 minutes and even for speaking in the assembly.
They alleged that the principal, Simon Joseph, tried to molest some students and teachers and added that girls staying in the hostel were scared because of the past incidents. The petition also stated that the principal would enter the rooms of the girls anytime.
CSWO in the FIR filed on Tuesday stated that the investigation should be conducted by the in-charge of Nongmynsong outpost because “the principal is influential and the old staff of the outpost will not be free to investigate the matter freely”.
The other FIR filed by Kharshiing said Joseph, in connivance with a former warden, Kynthuplang Suna, intimidated some hostellers on May 27 who have given their statement to the police in regard to the FIR filed on May 26.
As per the FIR, the former warden told the boys that those who would justify a crime would not get government jobs and told one boy that revenge would be taken against the children.
