Long-pending bridge finally opened in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH: The much-awaited bridge on the Umsiang river in Ri Bhoi was finally inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner Rosetta Mary Kurbah of the district on Wednesday.
The bridge was constructed under the corporate social responsibility of the North East Transmission Company Limited at a cost of Rs 40.42 lakh. It will benefit villagers, mostly farmers, of Umkra and adjoining areas.
The project was implemented by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA).
Village leaders expressed their gratitude to the deputy commissioner as it was her maiden visit to the village, the officers of NETC Ltd and DRDA.
NETC is also funding other projects in the district, including construction of a community hall at Mawlasnai, additional classroom at Mangkathiang UP School at Umpohwin and another at Pilangkata, motorable road at Umsohmatan and a vocational training centre at Sonidan.
The inaugural function was followed by a song performed by the students of Umkra Government LP School.
The inaugural function was also attended by the Director (Projects) of NETC Ltd, Ashwani Jain, BDO of Umsning C&RD Block, F Lakiang, Executive Engineer of DRDA, Dominic Susngi, Project Economist of DRDA, Mathew Makdoh, headmen of several villages and the local residents.
