SHILLONG: The state government has agreed to extend the benefits of the Fifth Pay Commission to deficit teachers.
The Director of Education on Friday gave a letter to the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association in this regard.
The letter also stated that the department is waiting for the approval of the Cabinet that will hold a meeting shortly.
Following a communiqué from the state government, the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association and the Garo Hills School Teachers and Employees Association have withdrawn their proposed agitations.
“We had a meeting today and it was unanimously decided to withdraw the agitations as we have received the letter,” KJDSTA president ED Nongsiang said.
The two associations had earlier given the government a two-week deadline to implement the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission which would have ended on Sunday.
