Local body appeals for peace

SHILLONG: The Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong Nongthymmai Pyllun has appealed to residents of Shillong to maintain peace and harmony.
In a statement issued to the press, the Synjuk said a meeting was held on Tuesday to discuss the law and order situation in the state.
The Synjuk also lauded the state government for constituting the high level committee to look into the Sweepers’ Colony issue.

The Meghalaya Retired College Teachers’ Association (MRCTA) has expressed concern over the current unrest and turn of events in Shillong as the prevailing situation is having an adverse effect on the life and livelihood of all, including the students.
In a statement here, the MRCTA said following the announcements of results of various Board examinations, the students are looking for their career opportunities and also higher studies. Most of the new learners are from the marginalised groups of the society and hence they need proper support and a conducive environment to build successful career with dignified values and ethics.  
There is need to bring back and sustain safe and healthy environment for our children in their academic pursuits, the association said.
The MRCTA appealed to all section of people to help in bringing back peace and harmony in the city in the interest of all concerned, adding “We also urge upon the government to take appropriate measures to pave way for the return of normalcy.”
