Over 100 cops injured in clashes

SHILLONG: The Dorbar Shnong will work together with police to ensure peace in the city and security of all citizens.
SP (City) Stephan A Rynjah told reporters on Thursday that the city was getting back to normal. He added that over 100 police personnel were injured, some seriously, during the clashes with protesters as police exercised maximum restraint.
Asked about the agitators, Rynjah said majority of the agitators were reeking of alcohol when arrested. Around 40 persons were detained and released but around 10-15 persons were arrested for trying to hurt police personnel on duty and destroy public property.
About the assaulters of three Khasi boys, Rynjah said two of them, Anil Basi and B Misah, have been arrested. Asked if there will be more arrests, Rynjah said, “We are looking into it.”
As for the allegations that the agitation was “funded”, Rynjah said the investigation is going on with regard to the matter.
Arrests
On June 3 evening, a police patrolling party arrested 12 persons namely Shanborlang Syiemlieh (29) of Sohra, Elansius L Mawphlang (29) of Mawlai, Nongpathaw, Donkupar Kharkongor (24) of Nonglakhait, Bhoirymbong, Khlurningstat Lumbiang, Blarstarlan Kharsati (25), Arnestius Marngar (27), Enlarlet Ramsiej (27), Dandawar Dunai, Rimewanskhem Marwein, Weldones Pariong (34), Clenerlaw Kharnaior and Manshailia Pariong (23) from Lower Jail Road.
Police seized seven catapults, an iron rod, glass splinters and two bags of stones from their possession.
Around 11 pm on June 2, a group of people camped with lethal weapons with the intention to create trouble. However, on seeing police they ran away. Police recovered 26 petrol bombs, one machete, two ‘gandri’, two wooden sticks, eight empty bottles, seven racks containing empty bottles, from the roadside at Punjabi Lane.
On the evening of June 1, a mob gathered at Motphran, pelted stones and lobbed petrol bombs at police on duty.
As a result, five police personnel — Hemanto Rabha, A. Rai, Sengrak Sangma, Stanlywell Lyngdoh and B Baruah — sustained injuries and three police vehicles were damaged while one SPTS Maxi cab was partially burnt.
In this connection, police arrested Richmond Pyngrope (24) of Mawlai Nongkwar, John Dor Sawkmie (25) of Jaiaw Jingthang Briew, Pynskhemlang Lyngdoh Mawphlang (20) of Mawlai Umthlong, Jeffrey Rynjah (23) of Umkdait Nongmensong, Banteilang Lyngdoh of Mawlai Iewrynghep, Mafius Sohshang (30) of Wahumkhrah Pdengshnong, Rangkynsai Syiemlieh (26) of Mawlai Nongpdeng Block-A, Teibording Nongsiej (28) of Mawlai Mawroh Kynton, Starwad Kharkongor (22) of Mawpat and Jweslin Sangriang (42) of Mawlai Mawdatbaki Block-5.
Police seized a plastic bag containing two beer bottles filled with suspected inflammable substances from their possession.
