Southwest monsoon advances further

GUWAHATI: Southwest monsoon has advanced further into the remaining parts of Arunachal Pradesh and most parts of Assam and Meghalaya with the Regional Meteorological Centre here predicting widespread rainfall activity over the region during the next four days.

According to the weather bulletin of RMC on Tuesday, heavy to very heavy rainfall was very likely at isolated places on Wednesday and Thursday with heavy rainfall at isolated places on June 15 and 16 over Assam and Meghalaya. Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh between June 13 and June 16 with isolated very heavy falls on June 14.

Besides, the Met office has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during June 13 and 15.

Giving details about the chief synoptic features for the rainfall activity, the Met office informed that an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level lies over south Assam and Meghalaya and its neighbourhood while a trough runs from this system to north coastal Andhra Pradesh across Bangladesh, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha at 7.6 km above mean sea level.

Maximum temperature in Guwahati has come down from 34.2 degrees Celsius on Monday to 30.7 degrees Celsius on Tuesday while in Shillong it dipped from 24.1 degrees Celsius on Monday to 20.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

The rainfall activity is expected to bring the rising mercury levels further down in the coming days.
