SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills district police are conducting thorough investigation to get to those who funded the mercenaries who caused days of unrest in the city.
Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said preliminary investigation revealed that the crowd was brought to the city to cause trouble and the police are probing to find the “master of the mercenaries”.
Earlier, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had said the crowd was funded to stir trouble and that stern action would be taken against those responsible.
The SP said the situation is “more or less normal” but the deployed police forces would be alert to keep anti-social elements at bay.
He further said the police are also keeping track of events in other districts which may in some way have an impact on the situation in Shillong and though everything is under control, curfew will be on.
