NONGSTOIN: Heavy rain accompanied by cyclone early on Thursday morning rendered five families homeless in West Khasi Hills, besides uprooting several trees and damaging electric wires. The five houses — belonging to Belstone Pariong, Pheri Sohshang, Rocking Thongni, Throtstar Wanniang and Anderson Dkhar — and the Presbyterian church at Pynden Mawbah in the district were damaged.
Three members of a family were injured. They have been identified as Sildaris Lyngkhoi, Aiban Lyngkhoi and Centerphul Lyngkhoi.
Headman Tranly Langrin told reporters here that after the incident he went to Nongstoin to meet the BDO and the NPP general secretary AL Syiem for relief for the affected families.
Syiem said the amount given by NPP “is just an immediate relief but the party will ask the department concerned for sanction of relief”.
