TURA: Tura Town witnessed one of the most devastating showers in recent times on Thursday night which caused small streams passing through town to swell up and wash away several shops in several localities.
Heavy showers began to lash the town by around 9:45 pm which continued without letting up until early morning, turning usually tiny streams into torrents which flooded into roads damaging shops located along its banks.
Two shops located at Don Bosco junction at Sampalgre locality were completely washed away by the raging waters of the Kasinang stream which also did major damage to the tiled road laid there.
Another shop constructed across the Gandrak stream at Chandmary was also washed away. However, there were no reports of any casualties reported from anywhere during Thursday night’s storm.
When contacted, West Garo Hills DC, Ram Singh said that so far, there were no reports of major damage or casualties reported from anywhere except in Chandmary area where several shops were reportedly damaged. We have asked the Tura Municipal Board to look into it, the DC added.
