SHILLONG: The survey of the Sweepers’ Colony (Them Iew Mawlong) concluded on Thursday amid a second day of silent protests by women folks from the colony.
When asked, a survey official informed The Shillong Times that they would not be able to reveal details of the survey conducted over two days and that the CEO of Shillong Municipal Board and Myntris of Hima Mylliem will hold discussions on the survey.
Informing that there was some discussion on Thursday and the two parties might probably sit for a meeting again, the official added that details of the survey would be finalised by Monday.
The Joint Survey of Harijan Colony (Them Iew Mawlong) by officials of the Directorate of Land Records & Survey, Shillong Municipal Board and the Hima Mylliem began on Wednesday.
On Thursday the survey work was conducted from 10 am to 2.30 pm.
Meanwhile, women residents of Harijan Colony again staged a peaceful sit-in-demonstration on the premises of Thangkhiew Petrol Pump on Thursday and also displaced placards as a mark of protest against the move of the government to relocate the Harijan Colony.
However, the survey passed off without a glitch.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who is the chairman of the High Level Committee (HLC), said there will be series of meetings of the HLC after the mapping work is complete.
The HLC has so far held two sittings. The terms of reference of the Committee is to examine all relevant records and documents relating to the relocation of the Sweeper Colony, Sweeper Lane and Mawlong Haat.
The Committee shall recommend practically feasible solution(s) for relocation of the said Harijan Colony.
Iew Mawlong is spread over 33,000 sq ft and the survey will help to know the exact area under the jurisdiction of the Hima Mylliem and the Shillong Municipal Board.
