SHILLONG: A police complaint has been filed over the misuse of social media by certain individuals.
S A Sangma of Sadar Police Station Compound, Shillong lodged a complaint that on May 31, a message provoking people to fight was posted on Facebook page of Hynniewtrep Youth Council, Shillong City, just after a mob clashed with the police, when they were stopped from entering Punjabi Lane.
The Meghalaya police website says that certain individuals, organisations and Facebook groups like Ka Sur U Hynniewtrep and many others circulated provocative messages in Facebook promoting enmity between different groups, which is prejudicial to maintenance of communal harmony.
Some of the posts are even propagating anti-national slogans including supporting the HNLC to come forward and wage war against the state.
