SHILLONG: The Opposition Congress has questioned the hurry in which the resignation letter of former Congress MLA M.M Danggo was accepted by the Assembly Speaker.
“Danggo has created history as the Speaker accepted his resignation letter in Kolkata and this has never happened in the political history of Meghalaya”, Opposition Chief Whip and Congress legislator P.T Sawkmie said on Sunday.
He pointed out that five MPs of the YSR Congress party had resigned in Andhra Pradesh on April 6 but it was only on June 20 that the Lok Sabha Speaker accepted their resignation.
Sawkmie said another record that Danggo has set is that he resigned within 100 days of getting elected in the Assembly polls held on March 3.
He also pointed out that Danggo remained fickle minded in the past after he was elected for the first time in 1998 from People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) only to join the Congress a few years later.
“We understand that internally, Danggo is not happy with leaving the Congress and even the people of his constituency will not be happy”, he said.
Sawkmie asserted that Congress will go ahead with putting up a candidate against Danggo and home work in this regard is being carried out by the CLP leader to retain the seat.
