Drug peddlers arrested in Nongstoin
NONGSTOIN: Nongstoin Police on Wednesday received of tip off regarding the presence of suspected drugs peddlers in one house belonging to Biolin Lyngdoh of Mawlarshong in New Nongstoin. Acting on the information, police raided the house and recovered 0.12 gram of suspected heroin. Three persons were also taken into custody. The arrested persons have been identified as Philosaphar Thabah, Banlumlang Nongsiej and Aronsteward Kharkongor.
Workshop cum awareness programme to be held today
NONGPOH: The Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Nongpoh has informed that the office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Shillong will organise a one day workshop cum awareness programme in collaboration with the Meghalaya Village Development Promotion Tourism Cooperative Societies Ltd., with the objective of promoting and developing rural tourism through cooperative societies. The workshop will be held on Thursday at the Bhoirymbong Community Hall from 9:00 am onwards. Self Help Groups (SHGs), NGOs and local residents are encouraged to participate in the programme.
Training programme on mushroom cultivation held
Jowai: A three day training programme on ‘Mushroom cultivation for doubling Farmers income’ was conducted at the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region at Umiam in collaboration with DMR, Solan from June 25 to 27. Around 40 farmers from Jaintia Hills and nearby areas attended the programme. Farmers were provided training on Oyster, button and shiitake mushroom. Hands-on sessions on oyster mushroom cultivation was also conducted. Course Director Pankaj Baiswar expressed his gratitude to all the the people in attendance and also thanked the director of the Institute N Prakash for all the help and support. He also urged farmers to improve their income by adopting mushroom cultivation. In the valedictory session spawn and polybags were also distributed along with a bulletin in Khasi titled ‘Ka jingrep tit bad ka rukom pynmih symbai tit’ by Dr. G.T. Behere, HOD, Crop Protection.
Lady Keane College celebrates World Environment Day
SHILLONG: The NSS unit of Lady Keane College celebrated ‘World Environment Day’ by organising an inter-college seminar presentation and an essay writing competition centered on the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ on the college premises on Saturday. An awareness campaign was also organised for the residents of the NSS adopted village, Laitsohpliah in East Khasi Hill on Monday. A tree plantation drive was carried out in the village by the principal of the college, NSS programme officers, student volunteers and the local residents.
‘100 pc coverage under Mission Indradhanush in EGH’
TURA: Health officials in East Garo Hill have informed that the Special Intensified Mission Indradhanus (SIMI) program, one of the seven flagship programs under the ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’ campaign has achieved 100 percent coverage for antenatal mothers and children from 0 to2 years. According to DM&HO, Dr Janulla K Marak, the program which was divided into three rounds began in April and continued up to June and has been successful with the cooperation of stake-holders from the Health Department and the district administration headed by Deputy Commissioner Ramkumar S as well as a team from ICDS and Education departments. She also informed that the coverage for antenatal mothers in the first round was 105 percent and 101 percent for children. Out of 491 villages, the DM&HO informed that 46 villages were covered during the program wherein immunization coverage was given to pregnant and lactating mothers as well as children.
