MAWKYRWAT: Health Minister A.L. Hek on Friday lauded the effort of teachers who fight the most difficult battle by sacrificing their lives in the battle to chase away darkness and ignorance for the betterment of students.
Hek said this during the inauguration of the school building of Mawthawpdah Presbyterian Secondary School at Mawthawpdah, 20 km from Mawkyrwat which was constructed under the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) at the estimated cost of Rs. 3.27 crore in the presence of local MLA, Renik L. Tongkhar, Additional DC, W. Biam and District School Education Officer, N. Wanniang.
‘‘Teachers especially those in Mission School are getting low income, yet they sacrifice their lives. We always remember only those great leaders who sacrifice something in their lives, but we forgot that teachers everyday fight the most difficult battle in the world to chase away the darkness and ignorance for the bright future of our children,” he said. Hek also said that education does not mean only high qualification, but focus should be on complete human resources. “Education does not only mean getting knowledge, but complete human resources in which one should be a good human being who knows man and knows God (tip briew tip Blei) and always be afraid of God,” Hek said, adding that people in this generation are focusing only on schooling to get proper education but forget God. While calling upon the students of the school to work hard to achieve the goals, Hek said that education is a “permanent asset” that will last forever. He also urged the teaching community to continue in their efforts in imparting quality education which will help raise the standard of the school. He hoped and wished that the school will progress in future trough the dedication and selfless service of the teaching community and therefore called upon for support and cooperation of all stakeholders.
Meanwhile, local MLA, Renik L. Tongkhar hailed the hard work of the school education committee especially the secretary, Tbn. N Dkhar for getting the fund through NLCPR for the school building. “In every success story, there is someone who has sacrificed for that success,” Tongkhar said.
Tongkhar also called upon the school Managing Committee not to compromise with the quality of education. “In this generation we need qualified teachers in order to get quality education and therefore it is very important for the Managing Committee to maintain the quality of education by not compromising with employment as there is nepotism in the appointment of teachers who are not qualified,” Tongkhar said.
The MLA also expressed happiness over the inauguration of the building because there were many projects which cannot be completed due to differences. “There were several schools in different parts of the state, which after receiving sanction from the government also could not complete the work due to the differences within the organisation or the village,” Tongkhar said.
The Mawthawpdah Presbyterian Higher Secondary School is one among 13 higher secondary schools in South West Khasi Hills district. It was established in 1985 and has a total number of more than 400 students.
